Labor and employment laws are changing fast, and HR can’t afford to fall behind. On April 22, SHRM Princeton is hosting a half-day legal seminar where experienced practitioners will unpack current “hot topic” issues and what they mean for your organization. You’ll leave with concrete dos and don’ts and a step-by-step HR investigation walkthrough you can apply right away.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Labor and employment law continues to evolve, and HR professionals are often the first line of defense when it comes to compliance, risk mitigation, and employee relations. This half-day SHRM Princeton legal seminar on April 22 will focus on current hot topics in labor and employment and what they mean for your day-to-day HR practice.
Our speakers will translate complex legal developments into practical guidance you can use immediately. Beyond the legal overview, we’ll dive into HR investigation best practices, including a live walkthrough of an example investigation from intake to closure, highlighting common missteps and how to avoid them.
You’ll walk away better equipped to:
-
Spot legal risk earlier
-
Respond confidently to sensitive employee issues
-
Conduct thorough, fair, and well-documented HR investigations
This program is ideal for HR professionals, people managers, and business leaders who want to stay compliant, reduce risk, and strengthen their organization’s HR practices.
ABOUT OUR PRESENTER:
Angela A. Turiano, Chair of Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Litigation department, primarily focuses her practice on handling securities, regulatory and employment litigation matters.
Angela routinely represents a wide array of clients, including financial institutions and their representatives and advisors, in customer and employment arbitrations and litigation, as well as regulatory inquiries and enforcement actions. Angela also conducts internal investigations and advises clients on how to best limit their financial, regulatory and reputational liability. In this regard, Angela has worked as in-house counsel for two major securities firms, and thus understands, from an internal perspective, the highly specific needs of her clients.
Angela is a practiced trial lawyer who has appeared on behalf of corporate clients in New York federal and state courts and in arbitrations before various self-regulatory organizations. Angela has also represented individuals in both state and federal criminal prosecutions, from inception through trial. Prior to entering private practice, Angela served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office, where she prosecuted and successfully brought to trial multiple felony cases including Burglary, Narcotics Sale, Robbery and Kidnapping.
Outside of her practice, Angela dedicates time to helping advance the practice of law for current and upcoming attorneys. She is an active speaker in the securities community. She has participated in speaking engagements at the SIFMA Annual Compliance and Legal Conference, the FINRA Annual Conference, New York State Bar Association, the American Conference Institute, and the renowned NYU Stern School of Business, all of where she has lectured on the latest trends in securities and related employment litigation. At her clients’ requests, she has also served on panels at client firm roundtables and compliance conferences, as well as participated in mock arbitrations. Angela also helps lead the Women Advocate Section of the ABA through her position as Chief Website Editor.
In addition, Angela has partnered with corporate clients to provide free legal advice at the Neighborhood Entrepreneur Law Project (NELP) small business legal clinic, as well as volunteers annually as a guest lecturer on hot topics and trends in the securities and employment industry and as a mock arbitrator/judge in law school competitions and clinics.
