ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
This study examines how teacher perceptions of supervisor kindness influence job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and intent to turnover. It explores three objectives: (1) the unique effects of kindness compared to other predictors like servant leadership and trust, (2) the mediating role of servant leadership, and (3) how school tenure moderates these relationships. A survey of 228 educational staff revealed that kindness significantly predicts job satisfaction and turnover intent, with servant leadership partially mediating these effects. Additionally, lower school tenure strengthens the relationship between kindness and outcomes. Findings highlight the importance of supervisor kindness for educator retention and satisfaction, especially for newer teachers.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
- To define kindness and distinguish it from empathy, trust, and servant leadership
- To describe the relationship between supervisor kindness and turnover intent, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment
-
To discuss ways kindness can be used as a leadership tool to increase retention and satisfaction
