Handling Requests for Workplace Accommodations Under the ADA
DESCRIPTION:
This presentation will provide HR business partners with an overview for handling workplace accommodation requests in accordance with the requirements of the ADA. Topics of discussion will include (i) Who is Covered under the ADA?, (ii) Considering and Responding to Accommodations Requests; (iii) Navigating the Interactive Process, including Requests for Medical Information; (iv) Practice Considerations, including Supervisor Training and Best Practices; (v) the Interplay of the ADA with the FMLA; and (vi) Leaves of Absence as a Reasonable Accommodation. The presentation will highlight trends and developments in this area of law, and include a discussion of situational examples.
OUR SPEAKER:
Sherri has extensive experience counseling and litigating for both large and small employers and executives throughout a wide variety of industries, with particular knowledge in life sciences, financial services, retail, manufacturing, hospitality and food services. She has been recognized by the International Law Office and Lexology for providing excellent client service and was previously selected by the New Jersey Law Journal as being within the top "Forty Under 40" young professionals in New Jersey's legal community.
Sherri routinely partners with human resource representatives and in-house counsel to provide legal guidance and strategic advice on a broad spectrum of employment law matters and to assist clients in identifying creative, practical and cost-effective solutions for workplace concerns. Sherri counsels clients daily on a wide range of hiring, leave, termination, wage and hour, restrictive covenant, social media, criminal background checks, disability and other personnel concerns to assure employer compliance with various laws including the FMLA, ADEA, Title VII, ADA, FLSA and state and local counterparts. She also facilitates employment law guidance globally for a large corporate client, working directly with the client’s HR business partners to engage local counsel when necessary to swiftly address employee personnel matters around the globe and serving as an extended point of contact for the business to assure uniformity in HR practices where feasible. She has been similarly engaged by other clients for such services on a project or transactional basis, when needed.
