    Workplace Violence

Presented by Sunny Corona, CSP, of Custom Safety Services, LLC, a full service risk management company.

    Program Overview

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) found that an average of twenty workers are murdered each week in the United States. In addition, it is estimated that two million workers are victims of non-fatal workplace violence each year.

Workplace violence can occur in any business and includes harassment, bullying, threats, intimidation, stalking, verbal abuse. Left unchecked, this behavior can lead to assaults and homicide.

Recognizing and controlling workplace violence requires involvement of managers, supervisors, human resource professionals, and employees. This session will discuss:

    • The magnitude of the problem - Direct and indirect costs to business
    • Forms of workplace violence and types of threats
    • Risk factors - Situations that may be occurring at your worksite that may contribute to a workplace incident
    • Four categories of workplace violence
    • Warning signs - Recognize at-risk behaviors and escalating stages of workplace violence
    • Overview of de-escalation techniques
    • Elements of a workplace violence program
