    What’s Harder about Being Smarter?

The Challenge of Leading Technical Professionals

Presented by Fraser Marlow from BlessingWhite, Inc.

**The meeting is approved for 1 general recertification credit hours

    by the HR Certification Institute**

In today's knowledge economy, organizations value education and expertise because they are increasingly dependent on the passion, creativity, energy and engagement of the workforce. Competitive advantage is no longer secured purely through the access to capital or information — but by having employees come up with creative and novel ways of solving clients' problems.

In order to achieve this, organizations are increasingly dependent on Technical Professionals – those expert employees in finance, R&D, technology or engineering.  These technical experts are among the highest-educated employees — and the most fought-over professionals. They may have some explicit things in common, such as advanced degrees, specific job titles or specific departments. But from a leadership perspective, what unites them is a set of workplace needs which set them apart from non-technical employees. This group of professionals has their own needs – in terms of how they are led and also in how they learn.

During this session Fraser Marlow, head of research at GP Strategies’ BlessingWhite division, will share research findings and insights into the challenges, required skills and learning preferences of technical professionals and those who aspire to lead them.

This session will be of benefit to all HR professionals and executives in general who work with - or design learning initiatives for – leaders of technical employees.
